![]() ``Then let our appearance be observed in your presence and the appearance of the youths who are eating the king's choice food and deal with your servants according to what you see." ``Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink. ![]() Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials,Īnd the commander of the officials said to Daniel, ``I am afraid of my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink for why should he see your faces looking more haggard than the youths who are your own age? Then you would make me forfeit my head to the king."īut Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, Then the commander of the officials assigned new names to them and to Daniel he assigned the name Belteshazzar, to Hananiah Shadrach, to Mishael Meshach and to Azariah Abed-nego.īut Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or with the wine which he drank so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself. Now among them from the sons of Judah were Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The king appointed for them a daily ration from the king's choice food and from the wine which he drank, and appointed that they should be educated three years, at the end of which they were to enter the king's personal service. Youths in whom was no defect, who were good-looking, showing intelligence in every branch of wisdom, endowed with understanding and discerning knowledge, and who had ability for serving in the king's court and he ordered him to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans. Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, the chief of his officials, to bring in some of the sons of Israel, including some of the royal family and of the nobles, And remember that ultimately, the goal of obedience is to remain near to God, no matter how many mistakes we make. At such times, we can use King David as a guide and pray, “Create in me a clean heart, God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me” (Ps. Then, what’s important is that we turn to God. And none of us is perfect, so there will be times when we miss the mark (Rom. There are often temptations to choose other directions or to compromise by taking small steps of half-obedience. ![]() Then we trust the Holy Spirit to help us understand God’s Word and to guide us. In order to obey, we must know what pleases the Lord-and that requires us to read and be familiar with Scripture. Obedience means doing what God says in the timing and manner He says to do it. ![]() But any Christian could tell you obedience isn’t simple or easy. Scripture says Daniel “made up his mind” and successfully followed through. He’s there and He’s walking with you through it one day at a time.Right away in the first chapter of the book of Daniel, we learn that the young man is committed to obedience. Regardless of the things you’re going through and how difficult they might feel, don’t believe the lie that God doesn’t care. Today’s Truth: God Knows What You’re Going Through and He Cares About You. You are so important to God and His plan on the earth. So know that you are loved much more than you can ever know or imagine. He sees you, He feels your pain and understands it completely. There we will be treated with undeserved grace, and we will find help. But he did not sin! 16 So whenever we are in need, we should come bravely before the throne of our merciful God. Jesus understands every weakness of ours, because he was tempted in every way that we are. What matters is that what Jesus did was enough. So it doesn’t matter if you’ve been perfect, it doesn’t matter if you’ve made all the right choices. It’s the perfection of Jesus that God sees when He looks at us. He cares for you and sees you through Jesus. But His care for you is totally separate from your performance. Not that you shouldn’t try to be good, of course, you should be living your life to please Jesus. He cares about you, and thankfully that love and care has absolutely nothing to do with how good you are. Or maybe because you’ve messed up, or not been the perfect Christian, He will skip over you and go to someone else that seems more “worthy”. Do you ever question God’s love for you? Do you ever wonder if He really cares? Perhaps you think, God has so many people to be concerned about, does He really have time to help me with my math class that I’m struggling in? It’s easy to think that perhaps God is too busy for you.
